And with that the Changemaker Festival is over.
I would like to thank the organisers, The Australian Centre for Social Innovation (TACSI), for letting me be part of it, and giving me the chance to show how applied improvisation can help with social change and solution generation. It was quite interesting where, in our sessions, solutions were collaborated to fruition to a couple of key issues:
We also ran through some improv games (Bite-sized Brain Boosters) – they stimulate the mind, saving you that 3 O’clock coffee! Although we played the games in groups, there are a few that one can be done by yourself, sitting at your desk if you need that pick-me-up and quick de-stress. All you need is an open mind and a change in posture. But why a change in posture? I’ll go into that in the next blog post.
In the mean time, don’t forget to LIKE the Facebook page for more frequent updates including upcoming shows, classes and discounts.
If you're in the ABC foyer in Ultimo, you'll see a photo of me. A HUGE photo of me. It quotes me mentioning a Batman-like utility belt of skills.
I got asked what I meant by that.
This is what I mean.
I was originally an introvert, so shy that I would hardly mingle with strangers. Partly because I didn't want to look like a loser or say the wrong thing. But improv changed that for me. It's made me braver, more confident and more socially accessible. Couple that with my masters in project management, I'm in a unique position to have both process and creative skills. I understand introversion and extroversion because I've live both. I understand both Western and Asian mindsets having being born in Australia and brought up here and in Singapore.
All that just adds to my utility belt. That makes me able to connect, understand and help those across from different backgrounds regardless of personality, culture and skillset.
I'm improv Batman!
Let me help you be an improv Batman too with your own utility belt of skills.

We all have dreams. Some we've realised through life. Some we've yet to fulfill. And then there's some we didn't get to chase and we're left with a "what if?".
Whether it be a love lost or never discovered, a life yearned for but never explored or a goal never given the chance to grow, to bear fruit, to blossom.
With the help of improvising actors and various types of puppetry, from shadow, electronic, glove and marionette, come along with us on a journey to help a special someone see one possibility of that unfilled dream. First up, let me apologise for the lack of updates to the blog. I’ve found it easier to update the Facebook page much more frequently especially with the new shows, workshops and classes coming up to fill the rest of 2014. I’ve just linked my Twitter updates to synchronise with all updates, so if in doubt, just check my Twitter feed.
There's a lot to catch up on, so let me just get this list of what’s happening in OCTOBER (all times are AEDT) out of the way first:
*(part of the Changemaker Festival)
OK, so let me update you what I've been doing...
What a ride the last couple of weeks it's been!
Early last week, I got a call from a someone who's been to my shows and who was a workshop participant some time ago. He called to see if I would do a Buck's Night show, but with a twist. Now, I've been to a number of Buck's Nights before, and I wasn't entirely sure if what I do really fits in what often happens at those nights.
But what he had in mind was quite different and smart. When he told me what it was, I agreed including bringing along a small cast.
The idea is that I would give the group a half hour workshop (using improv for communication and better relationships) to prepare the groom for his married life, and then we would do a one hour show, including members of the group. What a fantastic idea!
It's coming up soon, but after that call I also was asked to give a proposal for a birthday show about singledom and motherhood! How great is that?! I'm looking forward to that especially since I get to cast some of my favourite female improvising actors. It's going to be a great night!
Who knows? Maybe there will be an organisation innovative enough to set something up like this for their internal events or product launches. Let's just hope that they do their research and makes sure that whomever they get understands their culture, whether it be corporate or a bit more relaxed. Lucky for me, I know both as well as have the cast that are in it as well.
Also, a couple of weeks ago I was asked to MC a vintage fashion high tea for a couple of friends whom have their shops, the Prospector Store and Unknown Quantity, based in Parramatta. I mean, I know my clothing, right? I know the difference between pants and jeans and kilts and skirts.
On the day, like all events ever, there were unforeseen circumstances. However, it's a testament on how professional these ladies are that things carried on without any major hiccups.
Anyway, that's enough for me for now, but don't forget we've got a few things lined up for August. I'll post them up here soon, but in the meantime, head over to the Facebook Page for more details.
Have a great week and keep smiling!

What a night we had at the Puppetry Fracas! If you weren't there, you missed out on a mix of puppet styles and narratives. We had the poignant. We had the quirky. We had the comedic. We even had a dark commentary on Life!
Thank you to Blackhole Theatre Inc, who travelled up from Melbourne to organise the first puppetry slam in Sydney to a packed house! Well done! You definitely chose the right performers (yes, yes, I was one of them as well with my Press Conference improv puppet, "Furry O'Barrell") to entertain the broad spectrum audience.
There was video taken as well, so as soon as I get the link, I'll post it up and write more about the acts. However, for now, here's some teaser pics!
Stay tuned for a couple of new workshops, where YOU pay what you want!
In the meantime, may your open heart, arms and mind be well rewarded!

SKETCH is back again!!
The last show was filled with laughs and enough 'zooming' to get you 'swooning'! SKETCH is coming back again by popular demand!
You've seen game based comedy improv like 'Whose Line Is It Anyway' and 'Improvaganza'. You love the unexpected mini scenes but you want something with more story. You want art. You want story. You want something more than just gags. You want theatre.
SKETCH is a new improvised show from the team of 'Improv in the Arcade' and 'Impromance' which delves into the more theatrical scene work of improv. It's improvised theatre which will either make you laugh or cry. It might be whimsical. It might be dramatic.
The only certainty is that all the scenes will be inspired by the artwork created 30 minutes before the show starts (5pm) by the amazing artists in the Pop-Up Parramatta initiative. But what about you? The last scene will be inspired by the collective artwork by YOU, the audience!
And if you like the artwork, you can purchase it after the show direct from the artist!
So are you ready for some improvised theatre?
For more details please contact us either via Facebook or contacting us here.
PRICE: $17 including GST
